VAST Volunteers’ Week Celebrations
To celebrate Volunteer’s Week (1st – 7th June 2015) VAST celebrated the vital work of volunteers’ by hosting 2 events in Stafford and Newcastle-under-Lyme.

We kicked of our Volunteer’s Week celebrations on Wednesday 3rd June. Voluntary organisations and their volunteers were invited to The Hub, Stafford to be awarded with certificates as recognition for their dedication.Volunteers were present from Age UK South Staffordshire, Staffordshire Women’s Aid, Social Hub, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue and University Academy Primary Kidsgrove PTFA and VAST.

Throughout the morning VAST’s Engagement Manager Craig Harris, VAST CEO Sajid Hashmi and Sean Whinray ,Senior Support Officer for the Office of the Lieutenancy spoke to volunteers, congratulating them on their on their inspirational work.
“It was a fantastic celebration of volunteering. To be able to show our appreciation to all the hard work of volunteers including our own was a great opportunity. It has also been great to listen to everyone’s volunteering stories from our very own Engagement Administrator Kelly who started at VAST volunteering to our CEO Sajid Hashmi who spoke about his volunteering experience in Bosnia. Following the presentations, The Hub opened up to the public as they were welcomed into the marketplace of voluntary organisations offering their volunteering opportunities. Organisations present included Age UK South Staffordshire, Staffordshire Women’s Aid, Northfield and Longfield Centre, SCVYS, Stafford and Rural Homes, Douglas Macmillan Hospice and Care Plus.
Following the success of our celebration event VAST hosted a Volunteer Drop in events in Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre. Where members of VAST’s Engagement Team and VAST volunteers engaged with the public demonstrating all the benefits of volunteering. A number of organisations had stands on the day these included Spode Works Visitors Centre, K & S Out of School Club, Staffordshire North and Stoke-on-Trent CAB, British Red Cross, VOICES, Staffordshire Library Service and Staffordshire Housing Group.
